How to get a NIE in Spain

The application for a NIE number has to be submitted in person by the applicant at the Consular Office of the Spanish Embassy in your city or capital.

The fee for NIE applications is €9.74 to be paid in cash at the Consular Office. The 'Modelo 790' form regarding the payment of the fees has to be submitted at this Consular Office as well. 

The EX-15 application form ('Modelo EX-15') to apply for the NIE number is available via the following link:

It must be filled in online and in Spanish. The date written in the EX-15 form should be the day on which you will apply for the NIE number at the Consular Office.

The application form must be accompanied by a copy of the biographical page of the passport containing the applicant's information (EU citizens can provide a copy of their identity card), and the documentation providing proof of the economic, professional or social interests which justify the application.

 

How long does it take to receive the nie

Once the process is initiated, it takes approximately 8 to 12 days to get your NIE number, valid for 3 months. Once it expires, an extension can be asked for if needed.
